On a glorious autumnal morning on the C&TS, we catch a doubleheader headed by loco's 484 and 488. They're pulling a heavy train that includes the new premium car named in tribute to Jim Wrinn, the long-time Trains Magazine editor.

This clip is from a 30742 Charter on the Spa Valley Railway and features British Railways Standard Class 4 2-6-4 Tank No. 80078. K37 #493 ON THE DURANGO & SILVERTON

On December 5, 1967, K37 engine 493 started the last westbound freight of the year out of Alamosa for Farmington with four loads of pipes, nine box cars and two cabooses. Fast-forward to September 21st, 2023, and 493 is still with us, looking and sounding great, hard at work on the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.

On December 5th, 1967, K 37 number Four Nine Three hauled the last westbound freight of the year with 13 loads and two cabooses out of Alamosa for Durango and Farmington. The 12 or so miles of Railroad between Chama, New Mexico, and the Cumbres Pass is often described as one of the greatest railroading shows, and it's not difficult to understand why. Locomotive 488, at the head of train 216, puts on a great show as she works hard against the 4% grade approaching the second of three crossings of Highway 17.

Simple: I'm Scottish and have a strong accent, which US audiences don't like in films about US subjects as much as I wouldn't like on films about Scottish subjects. This film is a few years old, and I was planning to re-do it with the latest tech, which is much better and more realistic. To be frank, I'm not ashamed of this film. Narration wise I have heard much worse.

Thanks. I saw and enjoyed your stuff from earlier in the summer. I did the Nevada Northern last year. It's a long way from the Rio Grande narrow gauge. Unless you are superhuman, it's a good two-day drive. It's confirmed when your sat nav says your next turn is in 112 miles.
